ENERQUALITY Unveils Bold New Brand and Website: A Commitment to Sustainable Progress and Leadership.
Toronto – London, ON’s CCR Building & Remodeling took home the EnerQuality Environmental Stewardship Award at the London Home Builders’ Association Awards of Excellence on October 12, 2017.
The self-nominated award is sponsored by EnerQuality, the top certifier of energy efficient homes in Canada.
CCR won the Award for their sustained and on-going commitment to incorporating environmental best practices into all their work.
EnerQuality and ENERGY STAR builders Sifton Properties also took home four trophies. These were Best Print Campaign, Best Project Branding, Best Web Presence and the Health & Safety Award (won by Zach Ready of Sifton Properties).
“It is a great feeling to be honored with the [Environmental Stewardship] award. We don't always get the same opportunities as new builds or larger construction projects, but it is every small step that counts as an industry. Being recognized with this award goes to show how much impact the renovation sector has on the sustainability and future of our existing housing stock,” says CCR owner Peder Madsen.
The group leans heavily towards the Three Rs of green renovation – reduce, reuse and recycle.
Existing trim, cabinetry, plumbing, lighting fixtures and other items that come from their renovations are pulled out and if not reused in the client’s home, are donated intact to Habitat for Humanity.
Their mission calls for avoiding resale projects; they refuse to rework a space just for “a new home owner to simply come in and rework the space anyway, having our brand-new materials tossed shortly after creation,” the group says.
CCR does before-and-after thermal imaging on each project to demonstrate the benefits of more effective construction methods, ENERGY STAR-rated windows, HRVs, continuous insulation on lower levels, roof design with higher heels for better insulation, creative window placement for passive solar integration, and other examples of incorporating high performance building science into existing and often Heritage homes.
Madsen wants their winning this award to be seen as encouragement for the entire industry. “As an industry, many contractors are deserving of this recognition. Many of our colleagues have durability and environmental sustainability in mind when designing and building.“
EnerQuality is the #1 certifier of energy efficient homes in Canada and designs and delivers green building programs to the residential construction industry.
