Project Hope brings community together

EnerQuality had the honour of sponsoring volunteering at, Doug Tarry Homes' Project Hope, a recent three-day build of a Net Zero Ready home.

Project Hope brings community together

Project Hope was a fundraiser spearheaded by Doug Tarry for the family of late building inspector John Nooren of St. Thomas-Elgin area. The two-bedroom, 1,440-square-foot home in the new Harvest Run neighbourhood in St. Thomas will be sold and the proceeds donated to the Nooren family.

From 6am on June 9th to 4pm on the 11th, more than 600 people volunteered their time and services.

On Friday, after the roof was constructed while teams of framers raced to get the walls up, cranes lifted the roof into place while crowds watched. Coleman-Dias³ Construction pre-built the back deck, trucking it in where it too was lifted into place by a crane.  Sunday afternoon, after the home was finished, local police and firefighters competed to be the fastest to lay the sod - finishing the project in just seven minutes.

“It’s amazing what these guys have done. We had 60 guys at one point, basically all working at the same time in harmony. We had, even before the actual wall framing was complete, we had guys in the basement that were doing HVAC and electrical and plumbing altogether,” Tarry told the St Thomas Times-Journal.

Donations to Project Hope can be directed to the folks at Doug Tarry Homes.
